Trained as a graphic designer from National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan, Hamama Tul Bushra (b. 1967) earned her Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Missouri, Kansas City in the United States (2016). Her thesis explored two folios (pages) from a Mughal album, Gulshan Muraqqa, at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, where she assisted the curator in the research and the write-ups for the featured art and objects. In 2013 - 2014 Echoes: Islamic Art and Contemporary Artists and Roads of Arabia: Archaeology and History of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia exhibitions. While pursuing her doctorate, Bushra’s energies shifted during Covid pause/isolation to visual art. Meanwhile, she was provoked by social, political and personal environment and was compelled to respond her inner dialogue. She could not ignore her passion for art and returned to painting.
Today, Bushra practices a unique style of figurative painting defined by stylized forms carefully preserving and highlighting the soul and personality of each subject, enriched by cultural and traditional references and metaphors. She has exhibited in group shows, earning special acknowledgment and award, both in Pakistan and the US 2020-2022.
